Nolensville Mayor Resigns & Sprawl Stopped Dead in its Tracks Last Thurs. Nite!

Over 150 citizens packed the local
school to fight any further expansion
of PUD home developments and annex-
ations until town can catch up with
city services and infrastructure.
Much to everyone's surprise the Mayor
sent in his letter of resignation effective
March 9th. Tommy Dugger will assume
the duties of interim mayor until Nov-
ember 2006 elections.
Of course the board will have to consider
nominations to fill the open alderman's
seat at the next board meeting. This will
be a crucial appointment for the next 9
months. Up until the previous mayor's
resignation he dominated almost all of
the voting with a guaranteed majority
vote that really upset many local voters.
A long list of citizens signed up to speak
very strongly against excessive growth
that had no support systems to service
the expanding areas. 5 red-hot items
on the agenda were withdrawn or deferr-
ed. This meant two annexation requests
and a motion by previous mayor to suspend
the rules of order to reconsider a rezoning
request. The board voted this down last
month. But previous mayor was determined
to put it back on the agenda even though
he was advised that Robert's Rules of Order
did not permit such action.
(above)A bird's eye view of a typical swirling
sprawl of housing developments that are out
of control and continue to be driven by many
city leaders who can't say NO to the flood of
developers surrounding their towns.

Dr. Joe Curtsinger (alderman) talks about
serious concerns over Nolensville growth.

Approved and proposed homes total 2,983.
State law dictates each development must
have on file with state a comprehensive
"Plan of Services" with costs to town and
included in the town budget.

This new "interim" mayor will be closely

watched and be required to be far more

willing to share all the details of every

decision because citizens will demand it!

I saw channel 4 report.....excellent story and hopefully more to come.
It is so funny how things changed when mayor left.
Great turnout was powerful. I wonder if felts and alexander understand how badly they have looked to us.
Keep up the great work blogmasters!

The future of Nolensville must stay in the hands of the folks who care more of the safety , heritage and Quality of life, then profit of a few.
Slow down and smell the sweet fragrance of a beautiful Nolensville as it grows slowly under the caring touch of those who love her.

We can't let up now and let city hall take care of itself. We still all need to be involved and make sure that the interim alderman has the best interest of the community in mind and understands that means giving the citizens what they want, i.e.
*No more PUDs (we have more than enough already approved)
*Developers paying their share of infrastructure improvements to support the additional population
*A PLAN for growth
*A commercial plan to keep Nolensville road from looking like Nolensville Pike north of Old Hickory.
*A Mayor and Aldermen that listen to the voters and appreciate their intellect
*An Ethics bill

Not much to ask, just good government.

God Bless Nolensville and all who dwell herein.

We need to turn out and request our planning commission to abandon the PUD concept.........It is like one of our speakers called a cancer,
I am doubtful that the BOMA would remove the PUD given their stances in the past, but maybe we voters could turn out in force and help abolish PUDS forever!

Yes. First, PUDs out forever. And, yes, Mr. Dugger should excuse himself, reason??? serious conflict of interest as he already voted for himself, not for the good of our town.
We will be closely watching you Mr. Dugger. We love our town, without street lights, or garbage collection system, etc. Do not try to fix it for us, it ain't broken. As the saying goes. Thanks for the blog.
