Nolensville BOMA 7/6 Meeting Began Waving the Flag & Cheering & Ended On a Very Cold & Calculating Note?

Interim Mayor Dugger
determined to enforce
town's sign ordinance
despite citizen's outrage
at BOMA MEETING!

Woodruff, city codes, has had a running
battle with local nursery over commer-
cial sign ordinance that allows only
3-flag display!

Angie Shafer local resident said. "People can
blantantly burn our flag, claiming freedom of
speech and expression, yet we as law abiding
citizens are not afforded the opportunity to
display our flag when and where we wish to do

...where is our freedom of expression?"

Citizens have checked with Brentwood and
Franklin and both cities's codes departments
say they only have restrictions against too
many pennant signs for car dealers. Seems
neither city has any restrictions against
American flags?

So apparently when the interim Mayor
says NO to more than 3 American Flags in the
cities' historic area flags he means it!
Many citizens shared their families history of
military service to fight and die for the flag.

Interim mayor said he and his staff were very
much patriotic, but they had to enforce city's
sign ordinance. After meeting groups of
citizens discussed how to go about changing
this ordinance that is so disliked. Question was
why ordinance read "no more than 3 non-
governmental flags"? So American flags must
be governmental flags and therefore not cover-
ed by this ordinance or are they?

The interim mayor and his codes staff did not
win any friends over this flag flap. In fact, most
citizens left meeting still upset by the way they
said they would continue to enforce the law
irregardless of how much people hated it.

Consistent enforcement of the flag law is still
another matter...Haley's office complex has
5 expensive 25 ft. flag poles flying one Ameri-
can flag and four non-governmental flags.
How come they haven't been asked to take
down two flags and poles??? This is a new
office complex so "grandfathered-in" cannot
apply? The meeting proved what most
Americans know...don't mess with my Ameri-
can flag and/or me. Nolensville codes does
not have a good track record about enforcing
their codes...and flags are no exception!

Tell us your story about your American Flag.
Also send in emails, too. Look for Channel 4-
TV report probably Monday evening 7/10/06.

Not that anybody cares, but Franklin and Brentwood saw the Ch.4
TV report on flag flap...and are they laughing! They don't have any such ordinance about American flags. Damage has been done...file the story under.."stuck on stupid".
