URGENT! TO NEW MAYOR AND NEW & OLD ALDERMEN--"Something has got to be More Important than Something Else!"

What's it going to be? 2007 is almost here and
we have a new mayor and some old aldermen
plus one trainee alderman. What will be their
new list of priorities that need to be worked on
FIRST!

Mayor Lother's wants to form a "task force" to
work on a new recreation center. WRONG!
This is not high on any serious priority list!

Here's our priority list that should be adopted
by this new town hall team.

1. Hire a professional city manager just like
Franklin and Brentwood. Mike Walker of Brent-
wood has been on the job for 18 years with a pro-
ven record of saving Brentwood millions of
dollars. Now don't get confused. Not an office
manager! We need a professional administrator
of all town affairs. Someone who can write a
contract, hire and fire people, tough negotiator
and on the job 24/7. Heads up people not an
office manager. This person reports to the board
and has full authority to carry out his job descrip-
tion. THIS IS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY! And
don't start with "we can't afford one!" Nolens-
ville cannot afford NOT TO HIRE ONE! Yes, it
is true neither our new mayor nor any of the
alderman have the professional experience a
new city manager would bring to the job. So
let's do it and hire one ASAP.

2. ASAP create a town government Finance
Committee with the help of our new city man-
ager. It should be composed of volunteer pro-
fessionals living in town. Some have already
volunteered. This is a crucial need this group
of professionals to advise/recommend where
and how to invest town's funds. Again, the
mayor nor any alderman have the combined
experience to do this nor should they try. Get
real..get a professional team to do it and there-
by avoid conflicts of interest and liabilities.

3. Create a new town hall committee to research
and suggest options to obtaining new town
hall facilities. This is more important than trying
to fund a new recreation center. Yes, there will
be members of the board that disagree. And our
new mayor will have to moderate her supposed
campaign promise about a new recreation center.
New town hall facilities come first before a new
recreation center that the town cannot afford.

4. Hold an OPEN AS NEVER BEFORE OPEN
TO THE PUBLIC meeting and invite all local
residents to be allowed to speak about the cur-
rent and future of our town. DO NOT GANG
UP on local residents and threaten to evict
them from the meeting. Just let it all hang out!
One policeman is enough! This will take "guts"
but, it's way overdue and this board should do it
and LISTEN UP! Otherwise, the attendance at
board meetings will dry up! No body will attend
and for good reason.

More to come..send in your comments on what
you think your priority list should contain?

Sprucing up the rec center is a nice thought, but we have plenty of other issues that need $$$$ applied before we tackle this. A good manager should be able to get things running correctly and also provide valuable input on creating the funds needed to do nice things like rec centers.
We need road improvements, stop lights, water, historic district renovation, etc. more than we need a rec center upgrade. Beth - I know you're not in office for another couple of months, but please get priorities in place. Maybe you should put out an inclusive poll with lots of write-in space.
